Three-star athlete Tijai Whatley announced he verbally committed to Georgia Tech on Thursday, becoming the fifth member of the Yellow Jackets’ 2018 recruiting class.

Whatley, a 6-foot, 188 pound running back and cornerback for The Darlington School in Rome announced his commitment in a statement on Twitter on Thursday afternoon.

“After a long process I am excited to announce my commitment to Georgia Tech,” Whatley wrote in part.

Ranked No. 72 on 247 Sports’ list of top 2018 recruits in Georgia, Whatley had offers from 16 total schools including Boston College, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kansas, North Carolina and Wake Forest.

Whatley was one of two 2018 recruits to commit to Georgia Tech on Thursday. Fort Valley linebacker JaQuez Jackson recommitted to Tech after he withdrew his commitment on June 10.

Whatley received his offer from the Yellow Jackets on May 12, according to 247 Sports.
