The Oprah Winfrey Network and content creators Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil have been sued for allegedly stealing the idea for the series “Love Is.”

Amber Brenner filed a federal suit against OWN and the married filmmakers, accusing them of swiping her screenplay for "Luv & Perversity in the East Village," according to The Blast. She claims she gave a copy to Salim Akil in 2016 and that "Love Is" has a similar story line.
She explained that her screenplay is about “a young, attractive, black entertainment professional who falls in love with a dominant and aggressive male who turns her life upside down.”
"Love Is," which is reportedly inspired by the real-life love story of the Akils, follows a modern-day power couple navigating "a complex set of social codes ... in the world of Black Hollywood," according to IMDB.
Brenner wants an injunction to stop production of the show as well as unspecified damages.
"Love Is," which is filmed in Atlanta, debuted in June 2018. It was ordered for a second season in July.
