Police searching for 2 cars following fatal hit-and-run in East Point

The witness told Channel 2 that he saw the victim dragged for a quarter of a mile.

Police in East Point are looking for two cars in connection with a hit-and-run that left a man dead on Saturday, officials said.

Officers responded to Cleveland Avenue and Springdale Road and found that a man had been hit and was dead at the scene Saturday morning.

The man was struck about a block down the road, at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Sylvan Road, the East Point Police Department said in a statement.

Wilbur Yancy, who works near where the crash happened, told Channel 2 Action News that the victim was dragged down the street. He said he saw the body and blocked it with his car so no one else would hit it.

He then called 911 and looked at surveillance video from a nearby gas station with police, he told the news station.

“They looked at the camera, and I looked at it as well,” he told Channel 2. “You could see a pretty good description” of the cars.

Two cars involved in the crash had left the scene, police said.

Authorities are looking for a 2009 Ford Fusion with left front-end damage and a missing left mirror, and an older-model green Buick Century.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office said the victim was a man. He has not been identified.

Anyone with information about the fatal crash is asked to contact Detective Ebony Bullock at 404-270-7069 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).

“I couldn’t fathom this,” Yancy said. “How could this happen? How could they have not known that they were dragging a body with a vehicle for that distance?”
