Mourners and critics react to Bishop Eddie Long’s funeral on social media

On Wednesday morning, hundreds flocked to New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia to attend the funeral of Bishop Eddie Long.

Long, who became senior pastor of the church in 1987, died Jan. 15 from an aggressive form of cancer, according to the church. He was 63.

As people lined up in droves to express their condolences, others live-streamed the homegoing service and took to social media to share their thoughts about the controversial preacher.

Many celebrated his life, noting the impact his spiritual leadership had on them.

On the other hand, critics used their social platforms to sound off about Long's complex legacy, which was altered after four men accused the pastor of sexual coercion.

Despite the difference of opinions, there are some people who simply want to wish Long’s family and supporters well as they grieve.
