Man pleads guilty to stabbing, killing siblings in Canton

According to prosecutors, José Tierrablanca-Gierro repeatedly stabbed Antonia Ruiz and her brother, Omar Ruiz, in July 2016. Antonia Ruiz was the mother of his child, who was 18 months old at the time.

A Georgia man pleaded guilty last week to repeatedly stabbing the mother of his child and her brother in Canton in 2016, officials said.

José Tierrablanca-Gierro, 28 at the time of the deadly double stabbing, received two life sentences after entering a guilty plea to felony murder, Cherokee County District Attorney Shannon Wallace said.

According to prosecutors, Tierrablanca-Gierro stabbed Antonia Ruiz, 27, and Omar Ruiz, 23, in July 2016. Antonia Ruiz was the mother of his child, who was 18 months old at the time.

Officers responded to an assault call at the Laurels at Greenwood Apartments in the 1200 block of Hickory Flat Highway, police said.

On the third floor breezeway of building 3000, police found the victims. The man was dead. The woman was taken to Northside Hospital-Cherokee, where she was pronounced dead.

Tierrablanca-Gierro, who lived in Dallas in Paulding County, later surrendered to police.
