Update-Cobb County

Last week, we told you about Jim Sykes’ concern about a situation in Cobb County.

“A cable installation contractor, apparently working for AT&T, abandoned a work tent in front of 5500 Highlands Parkway in Smyrna more than six months ago. The tent covers two open terminal boxes and a rat’s nest of wiring. Besides being an eyesore, the tent is slowly collapsing, exposing the wiring to the weather,” he wrote.

We heard back from Cobb officials who said their right-of-way people have contacted AT&T. They said the company is waiting on a new shell that is supposed to house the materials and make it more aesthetically pleasing.

We heard this week from another concerned resident in Cobb.

“These cones and utility flags have been out at 4515 Edgemere Trace for three weeks, so I know someone is aware of this sinkhole, however they may not realize that this is a blind curve at the bottom of a steep hill which requires cars to speed up to climb,” wrote Peggy King.

She said many children play in this area, the streets are extremely narrow and frequently a giant landscaper truck is parked here increasing the potential for a dangerous accident here.

“Can you get any information as to when a repair might be scheduled? It would be greatly appreciated if this could be expedited,” she added.

Another grate has caught the eyes of one of our readers.

“Add another grate in DeKalb County that has been in place forever- at least one year. It’s on Lavista Road at the entrance to the Kenco-LaVista apartment complex. There are two metal grates that have been blocking the right-hand lane for more than a year. To compound the problem, both before and after the grates, there are serious potholes,” said Harvey Klehr.

We sent the item to DeKalb County and will keep you updated.
