A new farm — complete with a permanent market and a place for the public to pick their own berries — is being proposed in southeastern Gwinnett County.

Owners of the nearly nine-acre property at 3809 Stephens Road in Loganville have filed a rezoning request with the county.

According to documents, owners of the proposed farm would keep "bees, chickens, goats and a guard donkey for personal utility," offer the public "pick-your-own" muscadines and blueberries and sell fruits, vegetables and "bee by-products" at an on-site farmer's market.

"The property will basically remain as is with two exceptions," the proposal said. "Earlier this year we deconstructed a house built on the property in the late 1800s. All that remains of the house are the chimney, foundation stones, two concrete slabs and concrete steps. We plan to build a shed-style farmer's market stand on the existing site."

"In addition, we intend to fence in the entire property."

The proposal is just one of several scheduled to be considered by the Gwinnett County Planning Commission on Dec. 7. Any developments that are approved would also need a final go-ahead from the county's Board of Commissioners.
