A Gwinnett County inmate was given three life sentences Tuesday after sexually assaulting his cellmate on multiple occasions, officials said.

The man, Roscoe Darryl Medious, was in jail awaiting trial in an unrelated rape case.

According to information released by the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office, Medious and his 18-year-old cellmate got into an argument over stolen Nutter Butter cookies on Sept. 4, 2015.

"The defendant then had some words with the victim and forced him to perform oral sex on him," officials said in a news release. "The victim was scared so he complied."

Medious then raped the victim and, a day later, forced him to perform oral sex again, authorities said.

"After this incident," the news release said, "the third cellmate slipped a note under the cell door to advise the deputies in order to help the victim."

Medious was charged with three counts of aggravated sodomy and found guilty Tuesday following a one-day bench trial. Judge Ronnie Batchelor sentenced him to serve three concurrent life sentences.

Medious' original rape case is still pending. Details about that incident were not immediately available Wednesday.
