Four Gwinnett County cities are among the safest in Georgia, according to a new report.

Auburn, Suwanee, Loganville and Lawrenceville rank in the top 50 safest cities in the state, home security analysis site SafeWise said. Auburn was ranked highest at No. 20, followed by Suwanee at No. 30. Loganville ranked 32nd and Lawrenceville rounded out the list at No. 50.

Johns Creek ranked No. 1.

SafeWise used FBI crime data to calculate the list’s rankings, limiting cities to those which had submitted a complete crime report to the FBI and that have more than 4,000 residents. There are roughly 150 cities in Georgia with more than 4,000 residents, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.

The SafeWise rankings were determined by the number of violent crimes and property crimes per 1,000 residents. Auburn, the county’s highest-ranked city, had 2.88 violent crimes per 1,000 residents and 18.89 property crimes per 1,000 residents.

The FBI cautions people not to put too much stock in rankings like SafeWise’s, saying that simply presenting safety as a variable of crimes per 1,000 residents can be “simplistic and/or incomplete.”
