A center that provides three-minute therapy sessions intended for increasing athletic performance by reducing muscle and joint injuries has opened in Midtown.

Icebox Cryotherapy offers a form of sports medicine treatment that uses gasiform nitrogen to lower clients' skin surface temperature to 30 degrees Fahrenheit in 30 seconds or less.

According to the website: “The skin reacts to the cold and sends messages to the brain that acts as a stimulant to the regulatory functions of the body. It produces the scanning of all areas that may not be working to their fullest potential.”

The 1,100 square-foot space, which opened in late July, marks the second Atlanta location for Icebox. The first location opened in Buckhead in 2012.

The center occupies the sole retail space of Yoo on the Park, a 25-story residential tower near Midtown's Piedmont Park.

The first residents moved into the tower, located at 207 13th St., in March. The building is now 40 percent leased, according to a Tuesday press release.
