July 4th fireworks damage, by an unknown suspect to Noonday Creek Park structures while the park was closed, will cost Cobb County $736,200 through insurance.

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 Tuesday to hire Osprey Management for $365,990 to rebuild a maintenance building and pole barn in the park at 489 Hawkins Store Road, Kennesaw to look the same as the 1985 original.

Both structures were a total loss after the fireworks started a fire in the forest and brush which spread to the structures, according to Eddie Canon, director of Cobb Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, and Interim Finance Director Bill Volckmann.

Also, all of the equipment under the pole barn was destroyed, requiring full replacement.

Other costs will be $306,210 to replace equipment and supplies; $47,000 for third-party project management and special inspections and $17,000 for demolition.

Vehicles destroyed in the maintenance building will be addressed separately outside of the terms of the property insurance claim.
