A Cherokee County elementary school student faces “severe administrative measures” after they were found with an inoperable BB gun on campus, officials said Friday.

The staff of Johnston Elementary in Woodstock “acted immediately by taking emergency measures and confiscating this item,” Principal Amy Graham said in a letter to parents. Graham said an investigation is being conducted by the Cherokee County school police.

“This incident reinforces the need for school staff and parents to work together in reminding our students that all types of weapons are explicitly prohibited at school under School Board Policy,” Graham’s letter said.

“In follow-up conversations with your child, please reinforce this, and that it is imperative he/she immediately share any concerns about safety and well-being with a teacher or another adult at the school.”
