The Buford Board of Commissioners recently voted to purchase about 16 acres in Hall County for a future elementary school. The land sits just across the Gwinnett-Hall County line on Gainesville Highway at Carter Road in “Old Buford” and was once home to Evans Grocery Store.

Currently about 1,000 Hall County students travel across the county line to attend Buford City Schools. Non-city residents pay $2,000 per school year to attend Buford’s public schools. While city commissioners do not have immediate plans to build, they do anticipate continued growth north of the county line and want to be prepared for increased educational needs.

Sugar Hill and Suwanee growth has limited Buford’s options for expansion south of the city.
