Nine candidates are running for a vacant DeKalb Commission super district seat representing about 350,000 people in the eastern half of the county.

Qualifying for the Nov. 8 special election closed Wednesday. A runoff would be held Dec. 6 if necessary.

The candidates are Gregory Adams, Diane Daniels Adoma, George Chidi, Faye Coffield, Jerome Edmondson, Randal Mangham, Edward Patton, Rita Robinzine, John Tolbert Jr.

The District 7 seat became open when former Commissioner Stan Watson resigned last month to run for DeKalb tax commissioner.

The election won't be held for nearly seven months because the Dekalb Board of Registration and Elections decided it wasn't feasible to organize a special election to be held at the same time as the May 24 primary election. State law would have required separate voting machines and staff for the special election.
