Two men whose car plunged into a Brookhaven lake Sunday escaped by climbing through the sunroof and swimming to shore.

No one was injured in the accident, and the car was being towed to shore, said Brookhaven Police Major Brandon Gurley.

The men were attempting to park the car at Murphey Candler Lake when it drove into the water, Gurley said. It's unclear whether there was a vehicle malfunction or the driver mistakenly pushed the accelerator.

The car sank into about 15 feet of water, said DeKalb Fire and Rescue Capt. Eric Jackson.

A dive team and tow company helped pull the car from the lake, located off West Nancy Creek Drive near Ashford Dunwoody Road.
