DeKalb Tax Commissioner Irvin Johnson and contract attorney Susannah Scott are pledging to improve accessibility and services if elected tax commissioner in Tuesday's runoff.

Johnson has worked in the office for 15 years, and he says he has already made improvements since becoming its leader in January. Johnson has installed vehicle registration renewal kiosks and held seminars on how to understand your tax bill.

Scott says she would work to extend the tax office’s hours beyond 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, making it more accessible to working residents.

The tax commissioner's post is the highest-paying government job in DeKalb, with compensation of about $242,000.
