Stonecrest will become metro Atlanta's newest city if southeast DeKalb County voters approve creating it in November's election.

Supporters of the Stonecrest idea say they need a local government to help recruit businesses to the area and create jobs.

But skeptics argue that a city wouldn’t do any better than the county government.

The city of Stonecrest would encompass more than 50,000 residents in an area near Stonecrest Mall and Lithonia.
