Seven students and two teachers from Riverwood International Charter School spent two weeks in Seville, Spain and surrounding areas in June in the school's inaugural Spanish language and cultural immersion study abroad program. The trip, led by Riverwood International Baccalaureate (IB) and Spanish language teachers Lorraine Lynch and Donna Vargas, was offered in conjunction with Centro MundoLengua, a private international language school and educational tour operator. Over 12 days, Riverwood students attended structured language courses each morning and, after lunch, experienced Spanish culture through various activities. Highlights included visits to Seville's cultural treasures and a trip to La Alhambra in Granada. Students also learned to dance the Sevillana, a traditional flamenco dance, attended a flamenco show, and experienced Arab baths that date from the 9th century. All classes, lessons, and tours were conducted completely in Spanish, and students lived in private homes for the majority of the trip.
