Matt (left) is accused of kidnapping Carolyn Redding (right) at gunpoint in southeast Atlanta on Tuesday night.

A 17-year-old girl is back home after police said her ex-boyfriend kidnapped her at gunpoint in southeast Atlanta Tuesday, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Carolyn Redding was reported kidnapped about 8:30 p.m. from the corner of Pine Forest Drive and Forest Park Road, Atlanta police said in a news release. Police told the news station Redding’s ex-boyfriend intended to plead his case for them to get back together.

Witnesses told officers a man in a newer model white sedan, possibly a Nissan, forced Redding into his car after a brief argument. Police released a photo of a person of interest, known to family members only as Matt, in an effort to find the teen.

Friends alerted the man once they saw his picture in the news, police told Channel 2. He dropped Redding off at a Chevron station on Jonesboro Road and she began walking home. She returned before midnight, according to police.

She was not hurt. The teen told officers she never felt in danger, Channel 2 reported.

Officers are still looking for the ex-boyfriend in connection with an aggravated assault against Redding’s current boyfriend.

Anyone with information is asked to contact 911 or Atlanta police at 404-546-4235.
