A Conyers police officer was seriously injured after his cruiser was hit by another vehicle while traveling through a red light Thursday morning.

Officer Earrett Green’s emergency equipment was active when he went through the intersection of Ga. 138 and Flat Shoals Road, according to the Georgia State Patrol. He collided with a Ford F-250 headed south on Ga. 138, causing the cruiser to spin out and hit another vehicle.

The Ford truck had the green light at the intersection, and Green, 29, “failed to use due regard while traveling through the red light,” the GSP said in a statement.

The agency was requested to respond about 10:15 a.m. Green was taken to Atlanta Medical Center with serious injuries to his lower extremities. The driver of the pickup was taken to Piedmont Rockdale Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the third vehicle, a Mazda Protege, was not injured, according to authorities.

Conyers police spokeswoman Lt. Kim Lucas said Green was released from the hospital later Thursday. He was responding to assist another officer on a domestic call when he was hit, she said.

State troopers are still investigating the crash, the agency said Friday.
