Fight breaks out at scene after 2 men found shot dead in car

When police arrived, they found two men with gunshot wounds who were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two men were found shot to death in southwest Atlanta on Thursday morning, the city’s first homicides of 2019, police said.

Officers found Quinton Porter, 35, and Frederick Parker, 30, inside a maroon SUV near the corner of Lee and Whitehall streets after responding about 7:15 a.m., Atlanta police homicide Lt. Andrea Webster said.

The men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators do not believe it was a random shooting and have not released a possible motive.

“We’re not sure exactly what led to the shooting, but we do believe they were the intended targets,” Webster said.

Dozens of people showed up at the scene, creating an emotional and charged atmosphere. At one point, a fight broke out, and police had to bring in additional units.

“Clearly the community was upset about these two individuals being shot and killed, and it did get a little bit out of control here,” Webster said.

Webster said they served a search warrant on a building near the scene of the shooting and plan to look at nearby surveillance footage.

“Hopefully the video will give us an idea of what happened here,” Webster said.
