A bookkeeper for an elementary school in northeast Georgia was arrested after she allegedly stole almost $14,000 from the school, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.

Tina Thomas Cook, 50, of Jefferson, allegedly changed bank statements and did not deposit all funds that North Jackson Elementary School received since May, officials said. The missing funds were discovered Dec. 13.

Cook was charged with felony theft and first-degree forgery, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. She was released from jail Monday on $24,000 bond.

Officials also plan to examine 2015-16 records, since Cook was hired as bookkeeper in October 2015.

The school district fired her Dec. 13, the newspaper reported.
