Atlanta police probing connection between robbery, fatal shooting

One man fled a robbery at a southeast Atlanta gas station Saturday night, and another was shot and killed nearby.

Now police are trying to figure out if they’re connected.

The incidents — or incident — happened around 9 p.m. Saturday at a Texaco station on McDonough Boulevard, Channel 2 Action News reported. A man told police he crashed his car into a pole near the station while trying to get away from armed robbers who were shooting at him. Another man was shot in the back in the same area.

That man, identified Sunday as 21-year-old Atlanta resident Jaquev Jones, somehow got to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died, Channel 2 reported.

“They all occurred somewhat at the same time,” Atlanta police Maj. Barry Shaw told Channel 2, “so the investigators are trying to take a look at everything and find out if they’re related.”

No further information was immediately available.
