Atlanta police wound 2 suspects in stolen car

Atlanta police shot and wounded two people Saturday in a stolen car that reportedly rammed other vehicles on the Downtown Connector.

Both suspects were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Law enforcement officials said they did not know their condition late Saturday evening.

Two other people were arrested, but it wasn’t clear what charges they face.

No officers were injured, said an Atlanta police spokesman, Lukasz Sajdak. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.

Channel 2 Action News reported that two stolen vehicles were heading south on the Connector near University Avenue, ramming other cars. At some point, police began pursuing the cars and ended up on Lexington Avenue, a residential street near Metropolitan Parkway and University Avenue, Sajdak said.

Police temporarily closed the southbound exit ramp from the Connector onto University, he said.

Police told Channel 2 that officers felt threatened and opened fire on at least one of the stolen vehicles.

A GBI spokesman, Scott Dutton, confirmed late Saturday that the agency is investigating. He said he had no additional information on the incident.

Saturday's incident occurred three days after Atlanta officers shot and killed a man suspected of breaking into cars in a Midtown apartment complex. Deravis Caine Rogers, 22, died when officers fired at his car as he tried to elude capture. The GBI is also investigating that shooting.
