It's not too early to plan for fall. As the weather cools and the leaves begin to change (and it's actually somewhat pleasant to spend time outdoors again), The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad is gearing up for a season of fun for the whole family. Their Peanuts-themed ride, The Great Pumpkin Express, will kick off in October, and features a reading of Charles M. Schulz's "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" as passengers barrel down the railroad to the pumpkin patch.
Upon arrival, guests have the opportunity to meet Charlie Brown, Lucy and Snoopy and pose for pictures as well as make campfire marshmallows, trick-or-treat, take a hayride, get creative at the coloring station, jump in a bouncy house or experiment with temporary tattoos. Every child goes home with a pumpkin selected from the pumpkin patch, and children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes to make the festivities even more memorable.
It's not all about the kids, though: adults who visit the area this October will enjoy peak season as the leaves change colors across the Smokies mid-month, and the site offers rides on the railroad that cater to grown-ups, too. The BBQ & Brews ride or the Moonshine Experience are perfect for those looking to drink up (Doesn't shine-n-dine have a nice ring to it?), and those looking for rustic views are sure to enjoy the Nantahala Gorge train.
