Visitors to Jekyll Island have the opportunity to view classic movies for free at the Beach Village Green. The second annual Movies on the Green showcase has announced an official schedule for summer 2016. Movie-goers are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs to relax under the stars and enjoy a unique movie viewing experience.

The Movie on the Green season begins on May 28 at 8:30 p.m. with a showing of "The Wizard of Oz." Several other showings of classic movies will follow on select dates throughout the summer. The family-friendly movies on the schedule for this summer are "Back to the Future," "Grease," "Caddyshack," "The Sound of Music," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "E.T. The Extra Terrestrial." The season will end with a showing of "Elf" at 5:30 p.m. on November 25.

The "Caddyshack" showing on July 9 at 8:30 p.m. will be a special event on the putting green at the Jekyll Island Golf Club (322 Captain Wylly Rd, Jekyll Island; 912-635-2368 or 912-635-3464).

There are an abundance of things to do on Jekyll Island. A visit to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center is worthwhile to learn about the conservation of the habitat and viewing of sea turtles at the Rehabilitation Pavilion. Golfing, bicycling, camping and spending time on the beach are popular pastimes. The Summer Waves Waterpark (210 South Riverview Drive, Jekyll Island; 912-635-2074) is a fun place to take the family for a day of play on water slides and tubing on the lazy river. There are also plenty of shopping and dining options for visitors to explore.
