Summer may seem far away, but it will be here before you know it.

If your child is interested in the arts, academics, sports or just getting outside and having fun, there's a local camp to suit his or her interests.

Don't wait too late and find that your child's top choice has already filled up. Check out these seven Cobb County summer camps that are already taking registrations:

Summer University

What's offered: Kennesaw State University hosts almost 50 Summer University courses for rising 1st through 12th graders, combining academic subjects with a fun, hands-on atmosphere. Topics include Cooking 101, Comic Book Art & Manga, The Creative Writer, Computer Game Design, Puppet Making, Persuasive Presentation and Debates and Junior Detectives and more.

WhereKennesaw State University, KSU Center, 333 Busbee Drive #3301, Kennesaw

When: Each camp lasts a week, starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m. The first camps start the week of June 5, and the last ones start the week of July 17.

Cost: Fees range from $199 to $299, depending on the camp you choose.

Bricks 4 Kids

What's offered: Camps that allow kids to explore engineering, architecture and machines with the use of LEGO bricks. They'll be able to use model plans, games, robotics and stop-motion animation to make their creations.

When: The first camp starts the week of May 30, and the last one starts the week of July 24.

Where: Camps are held at the Smyrna Community CenterMonkey Joe's in MariettaSt. Benedict's Episcopal School and Marietta City Schools.

Cost: Camps start at $150.

Where the Wild Arts Are

What's offered: Art camps are held for kids 5-8, 9-12 and teens.

When: The first camp starts the week of June 5, and the last one starts the week of July 21.

WhereMarietta/Cobb Museum of Art, 30 Atlanta St. SE, Marietta

Cost: Camps start at $180 for art museum members and $220 for non-members. Scholarships are available.

YMCA camps

What's offered: Camps starting for age 5 up to teens in areas ranging from specific sports to music to a Wild West camp.

When: Weekly sessions start the week of May 30, with the last session starting on July 24. Half-day camps are from 9 a.m.-noon, and full-day camps are from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Where: Camps are offered at YMCA locations throughout metro Atlanta and Cobb County, including the Northeast CobbNorthwest Cobb and McCleskey East-Cobb locations.

Cost: Costs vary, with discounts for YMCA members. Financial assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Jitterbug Performing Arts

What's offered: Camps for ages 3-12 with a new theme each week, with a focus on singing, dancing, acting and creating props, costumes and scenery for a performance each Friday.

When: The first week of camp starts May 30, and camps continue throughout the summer.

Where: Jitterbug Performing Arts, 1125 Concord Road, Smyrna

Cost: Camps start at $155 a week.

North Cobb Christian School camps

What's offered: Camps are offered for children from 3 years old up through seniors in high school with a wide variety of academic, art and athletic concentrations. Topics include ACT Prep, Driver's Education, Band, French Immersion, Minecraft, American Girl, Baseball, Basketball and many more.

When: Camps start the week of May 30, with the last week starting on July 31 and include full or half-day options.

Where: North Cobb Christian School, 4500 Eagle Drive
Kennesaw

Cost: Fees start at $95 for a half-day all sports camp.

What's offered: Activities including arts and crafts, canoeing, archery, fort building, nature walking, jewelry making and more.

When: The first session starts on May 30, and the last one starts July 31.

Where: 5242 Wade Green Road, Acworth

Cost: The four-day May 30 week costs $310, and other camps, which are five days long, cost $350.
