Walmart will discontinue its popular price match program

Walmart’s recently announced it would discontinue its Savings Catcher program, a price-matching tool that would refund customers for any price difference between big box retailer’s price and a competitor’s price for the same item.

The last eReceipt via the program will be processed on May 14.

The Savings Catcher program would be activated by shoppers’ scanning their receipts. If a lower price was detected, the customer would be issued a Walmart gift card with the difference loaded to the card.

“Since the introduction of the program, we’ve worked hard to lower prices on thousands of everyday items across our stores, which has resulted in our prices winning the vast majority of the time when you submit receipts to Savings Catcher,” read a statement on Walmart’s website.

The company said in its online statement that since the program’s “intent has been met,” the matching tool has become obsolete.

Those with balances on their Savings catcher eGift card have no limit on when they can spend their balances.

The response from customers leaned negative on Twitter, with many bemoaning what they consider crucial savings via the price match program.
