You can help Smyrna celebrate its 145th birthday with a big ‘ol bash downtown this weekend.

It’s not a surprise, so it’s OK that you know that the party will be from 6-10 p.m. Saturday at the community center, 200 Village Green Circle.

Smyrna was incorporated in 1872 and is named after one of the seven churches from the Bible's Book of Revelations relating to Paul the Apostle and the seven centers of early Christianity.

According to the city, there will festival fare and activities for children along with a "GIANT birthday cake" from Smyrna-based McEntyre's Bakery and entertainment from metro Atlanta band Banks & Shane. The event will finish with fireworks.

The city didn’t say anything about bringing a gift, so your taxpayer dollars are probably good enough.
