If you normally pick up something to eat at a convenience store after gassing up, it’s a good idea to check out the food health score first.
At the Super A Food and Gas 2 in Ball Ground, a Cherokee County health inspector found moldy food in a cooler and rodent droppings on the floors during a recent routine inspection.
The inspector said large and small rodent droppings were throughout the facility at 5856 Yellow Creek Road. Management was told to clean it up and control the pests.
Pizza toppings that were contaminated with mold were discarded. There were no date markings on other ready-to-eat pizza toppings or on an opened container of milk. Both were also thrown away by the store manager.
Also, sausage biscuits being kept on a warmer were at an unsafe temperature. The heat source was turned up.
Super A Food and Gas 2 scored 55/U, down from its previous two scores which were both 90/A.
Points were also taken off because flour and sugar were stored uncovered and subject to contamination. And the flour container was improperly filled with sugar but had not been re-labeled.
The microwave and other food contact surfaces were dirty with food debris, and there was food debris between and behind equipment as well.
There was no certified food safety manager on staff, though the owner had taken an unapproved online course on food safety. The inspector told the owner to take the state certified ServSafe course within the next 30 days.
Super A Food and Gas 2 will be re-inspected.
