Cobb County children have a new way to play.

Smyrna held the grand opening for the "Spacenet" rope web playground at Chuck Camp Park on Oct. 4, 2017.

The Smyrna City Council approved it in May using about $150,000 of Community Development Block Grant funds.

Smyrna spokeswoman Jennifer Bennett said the structure cost an extra $22,000 for the 20 days of labor, mulch and other expenses.

The community grant program is on the chopping block of President Donald Trump's budget, which could affect future such projects. As The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported in March, the proposed budget eliminates the 42-year-old program, which supports urban renewal projects, suggesting that those projects are better handled by the state and municipalities.

Georgia awarded $37.7 million in such grants to 74 communities last September.
