UPDATE:

A Cobb County location of Chick-fil-A originally posted on Facebook and confirmed by phone that it and another Cobb store would be giving away green ice cream on St. Patrick’s Day. Except now it won’t be donning the color of the day.

The stores were told Thursday morning by Chick-fil-A that they aren’t allowed to alter the food, and that includes adding food dye.

“They’re not supposed to change the ingredients on the menu,” said spokeswoman Bekki Poelker. “The restaurant didn’t quite realize that.”

The deals remains the same — a kid’s-sized cup or cone with the dine-in purchase of an entree — but folks will have to settle for less-festive vanilla.

ORIGINAL (Again, note that the ice cream won’t be green):

Two Cobb County fast-food restaurants are giving away free green ice cream Friday.

No, it isn't pistachio-flavored. The west Cobb outposts of Chick-fil-A are giving away the green confection in celebration St. Patrick's Day.

The two stores participating, 1000 Whitlock Ave. NW and 2555 Dallas Highway SW, are run by the same franchisee.

Danielle Tremblay, office manager at the Dallas Highway location, said folks dining in who buy an entree item — not even a combo — will get a kid’s-sized cup or cone of the green stuff.

The store posted about the deal on its Facebook page.
