Georgia's barbecue joints have already won national claim. For the second year in a row, the praise has been doused upon one Georgia restaurant's sweet, soulful sauce.

Southern Soul Barbeque in St. Simons won eighth place in the National Barbecue news 2018 "Sauces of Honor" competition for its "Sweet Georgia Soul" sauce, which is most fitting for pork barbecue, according to the judges. Southern Soul Barbeque was the sole representative in Georgia out of the 30 sauces and restaurants honored across the country. Read more about the full list of winners here.

Since 2010, Barbecue News, a national barbecue trade publication, has identified the country’s tastiest barbecue sauces to help its readers find the best barbecue sauce and rubs for chicken, pork and beef.

Sweet Georgia Soul, the St. Simons restaurant's signature sauce, is described on Southern Soul's site as a "buttery, brown sugar sweet, tangy tomato base with a hint of mustard and a black pepper kick." It can be purchased (two bottles at a time) for $14.

In addition to this latest title, Southern Soul was also named the best barbecue joint in the Georgia by Southern Living earlier this year.
