Fans take to social media to congratulate U.S. Women’s National Team

The U.S. women's national soccer team won its fourth World Cup on Sunday. The U.S. defeated the Netherlands 2-0. The women's team also won in 1991, 1999 and 2015. U.S. co-captain Megan Rapinoe scored the first goal of the game with a penalty kick. The win comes after a season that was marked by increasing visibility of LGBTQ athletes and calls for equal pay.

It wasn't long after the United States defeated the Netherlands in the 2019 FIFA 2019 Women's World Cup final before the congratulations began on social media.

That should surprise no one, since eight of the top nine trending topics on Twitter were about the match.
