Mike Schleifer, who has served the Alliance Theatre as general manager since 2014, has been appointed managing director, the theater announced Wednesday.

Schleifer arrived in Atlanta after serving at Baltimore's Center Stage for 13 years. The Alliance is the leading producing theater in the southeast.

He will oversee a busy time at the Alliance. The theater, housed in the Woodruff Arts Center, is planning its first major renovation since opening in 1968. During the 2017/2018 season the theater will produce its entire schedule off-campus, at a variety of locations around Atlanta, before returning in time for its 50th anniversary.
