40 years ago: 'Midnight Train to Georgia' hits No. 1
"Midnight Train to Georgia," Atlanta-born Gladys Knight's biggest hit, completed its journey to the top of the pop charts on Oct. 27, 1973. It spent two weeks at No. 1. Knight and the Pips had many big hits before and after, but "Midnight Train to Georgia" remains the group's signature song. The song remains an indelible part of our pop culture landscape 40 years later. In recent episode of the hit sitcom, "Modern Family," the kids, parents and grandparents were shown singing the song.
