Q: I don’t like using eyelash curler clamps because they seem bad for lashes, and I hate getting them so close to my eyes because I’m afraid I’ll somehow pinch my eyelids. I’m looking for a mini heated curler that you lightly brush on lashes as you would mascara. I believe the brand is Japonesque. Can you please find this for me? I’d rather not have to mail order. Thanks. — Emily Jordan, Roswell

A: Japonesque makes a couple different styles of heated lash curlers that are powered by batteries, including a mini version, which sells for $15.99. It’s about the size of a mascara tube and wand. The heated lash curlers are available at Ulta Beauty, 7671 North Point Parkway, Alpharetta, 770-992-2245.

Q: As a recent widower, I’m in need of a cookbook on cooking for one. Can you help? — John Shore, email

A: John, there are quite a few cookbooks for one available online, but many of them are out of stock in local bookstores, so if you don’t want to order a book, then you’re fairly limited. But I found an excellent book to get you started. “The Pleasures of Cooking for One,” by Judith Jones, a James Beard award winner, and former editor of Julia Child, offers the novice cook plenty of easy to follow instructions and ways to improvise in the kitchen. It’s available locally at Barnes & Noble, 120 Perimeter Center West, Atlanta, 770-396-1200. The store price for the 288-page book is $28.95, but if you want to order it online through www.barnesandnoble.com, you can get it for $19.69, not including shipping.

Q: Your column provides useful information, and it’s the first section we reach for in the Sunday paper. Can you please locate a biscuit mix with butter flakes as described on the Food Network? Sincerely appreciate it. — Rick Hall, Newnan

A: Atkinson’s makes a biscuit mix littered with imitation butter flakes. When I called the North Carolina-based company, I was told that the mix wasn’t sold in the Atlanta area. However, you can order Atkinson’s biscuit mix with butter flakes online through www.atkinsonmilling.com. A 2-pound bag costs $4.99.

Q: Please help me find bulk plain yellow cornmeal. I make suet for my woodpeckers, and one cake lasts two days. I have been substituting Martha White plain corn meal. The name brand Hodgson Mill is too pricey, so I need a generic, no-name brand. It is still less expensive to make. Thanks for your assistance. — Judy Stoner, Stockbridge

A: Judy, I’m surprised that corn meal in bulk has been so difficult to find. I thought it would be stocked in more stores, but that’s not the case. I did find a reliable source that carries organic corn meal in bulk for $1.19 a pound. You’ll find all you need at Whole Foods, 2111 Briarcliff Road Atlanta, 404-634-8981.
