Trumpeter Milkshake Mayfield in jazz concert to benefit Wesley Woods

Legendary jazz artist Milkshake Mayfield will perform at Ben Hill United Methodist Church in a concert to benefit Wesley Woods.

"Jazzing with Grace," will feature the jazz trumpeter and flugelhornist at 7 p.m. Sept. 30 at the church, 2099 Fairburn Rd. S.W. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Mayfield has played with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Cab Calloway, Freddie Hubbard, Duke Ellington and Dizzy Gillespie. The Milkshake Quintet, featuring Tine Mayfield, will also perform.

Mayfield is working on his second CD, which will include “funky, contemporary, smooth, silky jazz.”

The event is free but donations are accepted.

Donations will support quality of life programs for residents of Wesley Woods' Asbury Harris Epworth Towers and Branan Towers senior living communities through the Foundation of Wesley Woods.

The program is part of Ben Hill’s annual jazz concert series, which aids charity to missions both local and international. Last year’s concert raised money for an international program of the United Methodist Church.

Wesley Woods offers housing and supportive services for older adults throughout North Georgia. More than 1,800 older adults, 75 percent of whom need financial assistance and one-third of which live below the poverty line, are served annually in Wesley Woods residential communities, primarily in independent living settings.

Donations made payable to "Ben Hill UMC FWW Benefit" can be mailed to the church located at 2099 Fairburn Road SW, Atlanta, Ga. 30331 or online.
