Tripp Halstead hospitalized at CHOA
Tripp Halstead, who nearly died when a tree limb fell on him five years ago, is being treated at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for Rhinovirus, or what is known as the common cold.
Halstead was taken to CHOA and is now in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
His mother, Stacy Halstead, posted an update on social media.
Her son is considered to be “medically fragile” so even having a cold, something others might shrug off, can be serious.
It takes “on a whole new meaning with kids like Tripp,” she wrote. “I won’t lie, being in the ICU is always scary with Tripp. We don’t know how long we will be here but I can assure you it won’t be a short visit. “

Oct. 29 marked five years since Tripp was severely injured when a tree limb fell on him outside of his Winder day care center.
“As always we have a plan,” Stacy Halstead said wrote on Facebook “ I stayed with Tripp last night and didn’t get any sleep so I’m going home tonight to sleep 8-10 hours in my bed. Then I will head back to the hospital with enough stuff to last at least a week.
“As soon as Mimi heard we were going to Atlanta, she packed enough for a weeks stay and she will stay with him tonight. Then we will alternate nights. ”
She said Tripp is doing OK, although his oxygen levels are not where they need to be and his heart rate is too high.
“You can watch his chest go up and down as he is struggling. Poor baby. But we are at the absolute best place to be when he is sick. “
