Thanksgiving weekend is usually a kickoff to a month of fun activities for the whole family. We compiled a list of a few things to do in and around Atlanta.

Tinsley Ellis & Tommy Castro and the Painkillers

Southern blues and rock guitar musician, songwriter and singer Tinsley Ellis will bring his electrifying show to City Winery Atlanta on Nov. 23.

Rolling Stone described his sound as “feral blues guitar” and said it puts him up there with Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck. Born in Atlanta, Ellis grew up in Florida listening to the sounds of Cream, the Rolling Stones and the Allman Brothers. His love of the blues, though, was cemented when he caught blues legend B.B. King during a show. As the story goes, when King snapped a string on his guitar, Lucille, he handed the broken string to Ellis, who was sitting with his friends in the front row.

He comes to Atlanta with Tommy Castro and the Painkillers, his label mates of Alligator Records.

8 p.m. Nov. 23. $36-$42. City Winery Atlanta, 650 North Ave., Ponce City Market, Atlanta. 404-946-3791, citywinery.com/atlanta/.

Malts and Vaults of Oakland

Take your guests on a tour of historic Oakland Cemetery, which is the final resting place of such notables as former Mayor Maynard H. Jackson; Robert T. “Bobby” Jones, lawyer, golfer, developer and co-founder of the Augusta National Golf Club; and Margaret Mitchell, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of “Gone With the Wind.”

“Malts & Vaults: Where Beer Meets History” will be held at 3 p.m. Nov. 24.

After the hour-long tour, visitors can stick around for a complimentary sampling of beer from New Realm Brewing Co. and a special Prohibition-inspired cocktail. Visitors must be 21 for this portion of the event with a valid ID.

3 p.m. Nov. 24. $6-$16. Oakland Cemetery, 248 Oakland Ave. SE, Atlanta. 404-688-2107, oaklandcemetery.com.

This is the third year for the popular show, which recently added a third performance.

The show is set in a holiday wonderland filled with gift boxes, toys and adventure. There are more than 300 costumes, hats and props adorned with nearly 10,000 Swarovski crystals, rhinestones and beads, each radiating the glistening season.

Miki Howard

Grammy-nominated Miki Howard bring her sassy vocals to Atlanta on Nov. 25 at City Winery Atlanta.

Known for such hits as “Come Share My Love” and “Love Under New Management,” Howard has recorded eight albums.

She’s the daughter of two well-known gospel singers. Her father, Clay Graham, sang with the Pilgrim Jubiliees, and her mother, Josephine Howard, was a member of the acclaimed Caravans.

She released her first solo album, “Come Share My Love,” in 1986. Her second solo album, 1988’s “Love Confessions,” included the top five R&B hit “Baby Be Mine.” The song “That’s What Love Is,” a duet with Gerald Levert, also hit the R&B charts.
