Imagine how cool it would be watching a baseball game in a stadium named after you.
Ah, well.
We last talked to Ted Turner at Turner Field during the 2010 season, on assignment to hunt down celebs in the stands. Everyone loved that, by the way. Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds, in town during that time to film "The Change-Up," which shot a scene at the stadium, just looked at us like we were nuts. We can't blame them.
But talking to Ted at the Ted was certainly pleasant enough. He was there with a friend, and sitting near former President Jimmy Carter and wife Rosalynn.
So, what’s he saying about his former team’s decision to quit Turner Field for Cobb? Not much. Here’s a statement:
“It is my understanding that the Atlanta Braves announced their plan to move from Turner Field to a new stadium in Cobb County. When Time Warner merged with AOL in 2001, the Atlanta Braves were part of the merger package, and later acquired by Liberty Media Corporation. I am no longer part of the company and have not been involved in the decision making since 2001. I just hope the Braves will be happy in their new location and continue their winning ways.”
Onward.
Celebrating 100
“The Vampire Diaries,” the CW teen hit that films in metro Atlanta, is celebrating the completion of 100 shows.
"Officially wrapped our 100th episode yesterday!!!!!!" a very excited Nina Dobrev tweeted the other day.
"You're all so amazing," her colleague Ian Somerhalder tweeted. "Thanks for this insane spaceship ride. I truly thank and love you."
"Thank you for such an EPIC celebration of 100 episodes!" added Candice Accola.
We recently spoke to Accola, who struck a humble tone about the show’s success.
“I have no idea why the vampire genre is such a pop culture phenomenon,” she said. “But I’m sure as heck honored to be a part of it.”
The teen drama, which has now spun off a sibling show called “The Originals,” films in locations including the Decatur-area studio, a Buckhead mansion and of course the town of Covington.
“Covington is beautiful and charming,” Accola said. “From the very beginning when we were filming the pilot it was just a really beautiful experience. It was an immediate bond that we all felt together. Over the past couple of years we have become a family.”
The vampire crew gathered over the weekend for a gala celebration at the St. Regis in Buckhead. Here’s to the next 100.
