Q: Every once in a while, I can find Weetabix biscuit cereal, but it’s getting more difficult. I would rather not order it, and if you can find it for me locally, I would be happy to drive across town if necessary. Thank you. G. Lewis, email
A: Weetabix whole-grain cereal, a brand from the U.K., is high in fiber and low in sugar, and today’s version is Non-GMO Project verified. You can find 14-ounce boxes of Weetabix for $4.49 at Kroger, 2036 Johnson Ferry Road, Atlanta, 770-455-6799. You’ll find it on the top shelf of the cereal aisle, next to Uncle Sam cereal.
Q: I am looking for Jergens bar soap. Walgreens used to carry it but I can’t find it anymore. Would you please help me locate it? I have scent allergies, and this is the best soap for me. Thanks. Margaret Tinsley, Tucker
A: Margaret, Jergens mild bar soap is a staple at most Dollar Tree stores, but not all. It is, however, available online at dollartree.com. Locally, I found packages of three 3-ounce bars for $1 at Dollar Tree, 2863 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, 404-501-0140.
Q: Please help me find a hand lotion that seems to have disappeared. It is Hinds in the green bottle, not the pink one. I want the lotion with aloe vera. If this is available in the Atlanta area, I’d like to know where. Thank you. Millie Sanford, email
A: You can find Hinds lotion for dry skin with aloe vera and vitamin A in 7.8-ounce bottles with green lids for $3.29 each at Super H Mart, 6035 Peachtree Road, Doraville, 770-986-2300.
Q: I look forward to your column every Sunday. I am hosting an event for a family wedding and need your help in trying to locate a cost effective source for fresh rose petals in bulk. I would not mind driving a bit. We have a water fountain in our backyard, and I am planning to fill the base with rose petals. Thanks for your help. Shachi Bhardwaj, email
A: I have just the place for you, and it’s not that much of a drive, nor will it cause damage to your budget. Hall’s Flower Shop and Garden Center, 5706 Memorial Dr., Stone Mountain, 404-292-8462, is a second-generation family business that caters to the DIY bride. It does business as Atlanta Wholesale Florist, and you can check out the website at atlantawholesaleflorist.com. When it comes to fresh rose petals at the store, you can select from mixed or single colors. Three colors make up the mixed, usually a combination of pink, red and white. The most popular choice for a single color is red, and single colors cost more than mixed. The petals are hand-pulled at the shop, and are available in gallon-sized cellophane bags. According to Betsy Hall, one of the owners of the 70-year-old business, the store makes sure to fill the bags so that customers end up with a generous amount that measures more than a gallon. One gallon of single colored petals costs $41.95, mixed colored petals sell for $17.99. Petals by the quart also are available for $6.99. Hall cautions that rose petals are delicate and should be treated carefully, as you would fresh lettuce. Keep them in the refrigerator, never let them linger in a hot car. “They’re not pretty once they’re bruised,” she says.
