Q: While visiting friends in South Africa, I was served a delicious hot cereal called Maltabella. It was made with sorghum. I would like to find it locally, if possible, since I’ve recently run out of the few boxes I brought home. As you can imagine, shipping costs are prohibitive. Thank you. J. Watson, email
A: Original Bokomo Maltabella, a traditional hot, creamy breakfast cereal in South Africa, contains malted grains as well as sorghum grain, resulting in a hearty dish loaded with fiber. A box of Maltabella sells for $5.99 at the South African Shop, 2065 Peachtree Industrial Court, Atlanta, 770-395-1255. Note the store’s new address.
Q: I love the new Cold Brew coffee but can’t find the decaf concentrate anywhere. I looked online, but you spend a fortune for shipping since it has to stay cold. Any ideas in the Decatur or Tucker area? It has to be decaf. Thanks Elaine Hoffman, Decatur
A: Elaine, I spoke with someone in merchandising at Publix, and found out that the store is able to stock Cold Brew decaf coffee concentrate as a special order item. Simply go to your favorite Publix location and have the manager order it for you.
Q: For years I have been looking for a Medicated Vaseline. It use to come in a brownish-orange container and was only sold in a small size, about six ounces. Thanks for your help. Brenda Garrett, Smyrna
A: Chesebrough-Ponds stopped making Medicated Vaseline petroleum jelly or Carbolated Vaseline decades ago. Used to treat minor skin irritations, burns and scrapes, Medicated Vaseline contained phenol (carbolic acid), which was the active ingredient that acted as a pain reliever. The good news, however, is that there’s a similar product available that does the same thing. J.R. Watkins Petro-Carbo medicated first aid salve contains phenol external analgesic as well as petrolatum. It also includes spruce, camphor and cajeput oils. You can find a 4.38-ounce tin for $8.99 at Tuxedo Pharmacy, 164 Wieuca Road, Atlanta, 404-255-3022.
Q: Where would I possibly find one of those hidden clotheslines like some hotels have in the bathroom? Usually, they’re attached to the bathtub wall, and you pull the line across the length of the tub to hang your clothes. I’d like to put one of these in my bathroom. I’d appreciate any help you can give me in locating one. Thanks. T. Garner, Atlanta
A: Head to the laundry department of The Container Store, 3637 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, 404-963-9602. Here you’ll find the same retractable clothesline style hotels use. It’s a chrome-plated disk that attaches to the wall with screws, so it takes up no floor space in tight quarters — whether over a tub or in a laundry room. The sturdy nylon line extends up to 94 inches and retracts when not in use. It’s priced at $11.99.
