Sweet Peach Wax & Sugaring Studio has opened a new store in Sandy Springs (206 Johnson Ferry Road, Suite A, Atlanta, Ga. 30328, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday, noon-5 p.m., 404-481-5488). The studio offers the same body waxing, spray tanning and hair removal services as the two other locations in Buckhead (3077 E. Shadowlawn Ave., Atlanta, Ga. 30305, 404-842-1788) and in Virginia-Highland (776 North Highland Ave. NE, Atlanta, Ga. 30306, 404-875-5700).
Owner Racquel Souza made the decision to open the Sandy Springs location based on proximity to a large customer base that either wasn't happy with having to travel down to Buckhead or "was tired of looking for parking" in Virginia-Highland.
"We have a lot of clients that live in cities (north of Atlanta) like Alpharetta and they wanted me to meet them halfway," said Souza by phone. Souza lists the city's safety, cleanliness and suburban locale as key reasons for the new location.
Sweet Peach uses a process called sugaring, which dates as far back as 1900 in Persia. A "sugary" substance sticks to and ultimately removes hair. Souza believes there are plenty of benefits to hair removal besides the most common cosmetic purposes.
"You feel sexy and clean, especially during the summer months. Over the past 10 years I have had plenty of gynecologists tell me how healthy and sanitary sugaring is," she said.
On a recent trip to Dubai, Souza noticed how often the men -- the country does not allow women to display bare skin in public -- were waxed and shaved.
"I thought it was wonderful. Waxing and sugaring isn't just for women," she said.
Pricing at Sweet Peach Wax & Sugaring Studio for men's services is among the industry's best. Eyebrow waxing/sugaring for women is $20 and for men is $25. Bikini waxing and chest hair removal for men is $50 and compared to $38 for bikini waxing for women.
The Sandy Springs location offers customers a better parking situation than they may experience at the Virginia-Highland location, and there are no parking meters and pricey parking lots like Buckhead.
The city of Sandy Springs has even got Souza under its spell. "I plan on moving there soon. I really like it here," she said.
All Sweet Peach Wax & Sugaring Studios employ licensed estheticians and sell body care, skin care, eyebrow kits, candles and bath products.
For the month of June, customers who mention this story on their visit to the Sandy Springs store will receive $10 off any service over $45, Souza said.
