The Home Depot Foundation has found a way to give a big thank you to senior military veterans.

The foundation announced on Wednesday - Veterans Day - a $5 million pledge to perform critical home repairs to help 400 senior military veterans in the metro area. The pledge is over the next three years.

The Home Depot Foundation will provide the funding but it is working on the projects with other nonprofits.

The seven area nonprofits are Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, Habitat for Humanity DeKalb County, Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Metro Atlanta, HouseProud, Meals on Wheels Atlanta, Senior Connections and Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity.

Team Depot, the associate-led volunteer forced, launched the project by completing critical home repairs for four local senior veterans and their families. Among the veterans was Rhuland Davis, 68, who served in the U.S. Army and received the Purple Heart.

Since 2011, the foundation has invested more than $105 million to provide safe housing for veterans.

Veterans who are interested in assistance are encouraged to contact the partner nonprofits directly.
