According to studies by the World Bank, girls hold the greatest potential to transform their communities and the next generation.
And yet, they are faced with everything from trafficking to child marriage, to abduction and slavery.
In an effort to raise awareness about their plight, the non-profit She is Safe will join with the Roswell Prayer Network and other members of the community Sunday to celebrate the achievements and potential of girls around the world.
Sunday has been proclaimed International Day of the Girl Child by the United Nations.
"Hope Shines From Roswell" is slated to begin at 6 p.m. at Roswell City Hall Memorial Garden.
The event, led by She is Safe president and founder Michele Rickett, will include stories of triumph of girls in the hardest places and prayer. At sundown, participants with offer a symbolic shining of light into the night sky on behalf of girls.
Hope Shines is a worldwide initiative of She Is Safe, which works to prevent, rescue and restore women and girls from abuse and exploitation in high risk places around the world and equip them to build a life of freedom, faith and a strong future.
