Austin, the 11-pound Jack Russell terrier mix, missing since his sitter’s black Ford Explorer was stolen in East Atlanta, has been found.

Tabitha Robinson was dog sitting Austin more than a week ago  when she stopped to get gas. A man jumped in the vehicle and sped off with the dog inside.

His owner, Lauren Carroll, friends and even strangers donated to a reward fund that reached $2,500.

Robinson said an elderly woman who lives near the old Turner Field told them Austin sat at her back door for two days, so she finally let him in on Tuesday.

“ She said he was very well kept and clean and she knew someone must have lost him,” Robinson posted on her Facebook page. “She said she asked around and no one claimed him.”

The woman apparently heard about the missing Austin on the news.  “Austin has been taken care of all week and we are so thankful for the sweet woman that kept him safe!”

His owner was said to be “happy and excited and overwhelmed with emotion.”

The missing SUV has also been recovered, said Robinson.
