Stage play: Forefront Arts presents "Shrek the Musical" at St. James United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. Friday, May 1, and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3. Based on the Tony Award-winning stage musical, these performances will feature the story of a fairy tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Fish fry and prayer: Bethel UMC will host a fish fry and yard sale featuring baked goods, plants and jewelry from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, May 2. Proceeds will support the church's mission project in Honduras. Separately, as part of the National Day of Prayer Service, Bethel will host a special 7 p.m. service. Guest preacher: The Rev. Mark Koenig, director of the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations in New York, will preach at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 3. Free concert: Enjoy an evening of coffee, dessert and live music as the Alpharetta Methodist Vinebranch Band performs rock, country and more. The band's new brass section will feature music from artists such as Chicago and Stevie Wonder. Volunteers for conference: The Eucharistic Congress, held annually by the Archdiocese of Atlanta, will need an additional 600 volunteers for the "I Will Always Be With You" conference, which begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 5, and ends at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the Georgia International Convention Center. Volunteers are required in many different areas of the Congress, including the kids track, ushers and welcoming committee. The greatest need is in the kids track; the number of children who register and participate in this track depends on the number of adults that volunteer. Of note: In memory of the Rev. Dr. Fred Craddock, Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters (AIB) in partnership with Meridian Herald will air the 17th Annual Higher Ground Camp Meeting Service held in August 2014 on the grounds of Epworth United Methodist Church. Craddock was an author, former minister of Cherry Log Christian Church (Cherry Log, Ga.) and Bandy Distinguished Professor of Preaching and New Testament, Emeritus, in the Candler School of Theology, Emory University. The service will be aired at 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. Friday, May 1, as well as 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2. AIB can be viewed on Comcast Channel 295, AT&T U-verse Channel 6 and online.
