Book signing: As part of its special program and activities, the Temple, in partnership with the 23rd Edition of the Book Festival of the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, welcomes best-selling author David Laskin, who will read, discuss and sign copies of "The Family" at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Atlanta History Center, 130 W. Paces Ferry Road N.W., Atlanta. "The Family" unfolds a sweeping epic that spans the three great upheavals that affected Jews in the 20th century, including immigration, two world wars, and the founding of Israel. Gaming and grooming: The Youth Ministry at Impact Church will host "23 Live Reloaded," a special gaming and grooming event, which includes manicures for girls, haircuts for boys, a gaming tournament, karaoke, basketball tournament, and live concert featuring Che Marshall Trio, Xavier "X" Brandon, and Brittany Inge, for middle and high school students. "We do youth ministry differently," the Rev. Carolyn Poling, the student ministry pastor, explained. "We want youths to get excited and believe in themselves because we believe in them. More importantly, so does God." The event is at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3. Outdoor concert and contest: For the fifth year, St. Paul's Episcopal Church will host its "Jazz Under the Stars" event featuring Rhonda Thomas, a vocalist, and CoResonance, a string quartet that elegantly plays everything from Bach to Beyoncé. According to Nicole M. Adams, the event chairwoman, "It's a great evening of food, fun and fellowship." Attendees may bring their own food and participate in the table decorating contest. "Tables must be dressed by 6 p.m. for the secret judging; the winner (receives) a prize and bragging rights," Adams said. Besides the festivities, there is a philanthropic angle. All proceeds will benefit St. Paul's Outreach Center, which feeds, clothes and educates the Peyton Woods community and greater Atlanta. The event takes place at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13.
