Decatur

You don't have to spend a fortune going to the coast in order to enjoy a nice, sandy beach. Instead, just wander on down to Decatur on June 17 for the Downtown Decatur Beach Party. For one evening, Ponce de Leon Avenue will transform into a beach, courtesy of 60 tons of soft sand. While relaxing on the "beach," you and your family can enjoy delicious treats while dancing and listening to live music.

Show your family a few of the finer things in life by bringing them to the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra Free Concert happening on June 14. This year's concert features Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjue with Rene Izquierdo playing guitar. Arrive early to have dinner at the Avondale Pizza Cafe -- a portion of the pre-concert sales will benefit the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra.

Dunwoody

If your kids dream of having their own beehives, or simply want to find out where honey comes from, bring them to the Junior Beekeepers Program at the Dunwoody Nature Center on June 25. Provided by the Metro Atlanta Beekeepers Association, this all-day course will introduce children to the nature of bees as they discover the art of beekeeping and learn about why bees play such a vital role in maintaining a healthy planet. Kids will put on a real bee suit with a veil, help inspect a live beehive and extract honey. Each child will take home a participation certificate, local honey and a wealth of knowledge about beekeeping.
